THE FORECAST: DIGITAL LOVE

It’s probably never been easier to buy a winner than it is in 2024.

Buying a share in a racehorse always comes with an element of risk, but the massive rise of online sales platforms like Inglis Digital mean that the average Joe or Joanne punter, can bid to buy all or a share of, a proven racehorse in work just waiting for a change of luck.

You don’t need to spend $10million on a yearling that will probably never amount to anything, you can do the form and find yourself in the winner’s list quick smart.

Take some of the recent Inglis Digital sale success stories; a share in El Rocko sold for chump change 6-months ago and the horse has won three races since including one at Caulfield. Last Saturday’s winner Ferago was bought for $5500 in 2021 and has bagged nearly half a million since. Multiple stakes winner in Queensland At Witz End was bought for $10,000 earlier this year and has gone on a rampage this winter.

Tomorrow, Bob Peters cast offs DEVOTED and WINDSTORM go head to head in the eight at Flemington. Windstorm cost his new owners $50,000 and has already earned that back without winning, Devoted cost $105,000 and has trialled like a horse that could repay the bulk of that in one hit. SIR DAVY runs in the same race for new owners and their $45,000 buy in should be returned sooner than later.

This is the sort of investment that Jordan Belfort would be proud of. Imagine if he was into horses.

ST VINCENT’S GARDEN would have cost Lloyd Williams a fair bit of money when bought out of Ireland but let’s face it, he can afford it. I don’t know whether this is the next Green Moon, but he’s more than capable of slaying what he’s up against at Flemington on Saturday.

Green Moon won the Cup in 2012, coincidentally an Olympic year. This was my favourite performance from the London Games…thanks for asking.

Don’t forget the Darwin Cup carnival this weekend punters. Let’s kick it off with the time-honoured Mintbet Maiden, race three on Saturday’s Palmerston Sprint meeting. HELL FIRE MISS should win the feature race, and I fancy SPACESHIP in the Palmerston.

Roll on to the Darwin Cup on Monday where I’m reliably told by Delicious Douglas that BEAR STORY is as close to a good thing as possible. Gamble responsibly.

Be careful up north punters, the publicans are as mean as the debt collectors.
