THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP – I Am Me- Ben Clifton

 Weekend Wrap

Star Performer of the week

Randwick Race 7 – won by I Am Me

Date: 07/09/24

Race Overview – They went out only fairly for the 1000m in this class but really motored late. The first 3 home were all rails in run.

Horses to Follow:

  • I Am Me – Always shown G1 ability, they just need to place her in the right race. Come back as well as ever.
  • Bella Nipotina – Just doesn’t put in bad runs. Primed for the Everest.
  • Giga Kick – Thought he was only fair. Barely a pass mark from me. 3 wide but tempo was only moderate early and thought he should have found the line a bit better.

G1 Review

Moir Stakes – won by Mornington Glory

Date: 07/09/24

Race Overview – They didn’t go the breakneck speed that you would think in a 1000m G1 race. Mornington Glory got there so easily.

Horse to Follow:

  • Mornington Glory – Was well backed at longer odds, and if you knew it was going to lead it would’ve started a lot shorter. Just got there so easy and travelled beautifully. His ratings have always suggested he could get to this level and now he has to be a chance in the Manikato.
  • Hayasugi – Never been one of mine, and thought it was making up the numbers here. Think there were better runs than her and will continue to bet around.
  • Lady Of Camelot – Just didn’t have the early toe to lead but battled on pretty well. I’m just not sure what her race is this campaign.
  • Estriella – Jumped beautifully but didn’t want to push for the lead. I think Ethan Brown on Mornington Glory would have handed up the lead if there was any intention from a jockey to take him on. Maybe a missed opportunity for Estriella.
  • I Wish I Win – Went good. On target for 1200m races.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Randwick Race 2 – won by Spring Lee

Date: 07/09/24

Race Overview – Last 400m was really strong. Good margins in this race and can be a race to follow in similar grade.

Horses to follow:

  • Spring Lee – Put down a figure we had expected her to do for a while. Can win better races.
  • Confess Our Dreams – Only first up here, has a good record and lovely racing pattern. Can win next start.
  • Martini Mumma – Disappointing to the eye but was solid enough in the market and only first up here. Big improver.

Maiden Winner/s of the Week:

Date: 30/8/24

Scone Race 6 – won by Dream Smart.

Why: Out fast and home fast. Good margins to 3rd, everything I look for.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Dream Smart – Took 7 starts to break the maiden but absolutely flew here. Follow.
  • Elcair Vitality – Coming out of some good races. Will get his turn.

Other Notable Horses/Jockeys:

  • Bravo Centurian – Entitled to be run down but kept fighting. Very good horse.
  • Lincoln Rocks – Keeps rating well. Maybe got another win in it.
  • Miss Aria – Race didn’t rate well but this is a good horse.
  • Giga Kick – Jury is out on him.

It’s arguably the feature of the Spring, with the Champions Stakes stacked full of stars. Anamoe looks to make it 5 on the trot and Zaaki looks to make it back to back in this race. I'm Thunderstruck has been close recently and will this be his time to
