THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP – Ben Clifton

Weekend Wrap

There were a few promising horses running over the weekend. Some enhanced their reputation whilst others had their bubble burst.

Star Performer of the week

Flemington Race 2 – won by Berkshire Breeze

Date: 06/07/24

Race Overview – They went out at a strong tempo but came home well for the distance. Race has gone really good.

  • Berkshire Breeze – Only want to talk about one horse here. 2 runs in a row this horse has put together a massive figure. Lazy punditry would call it Winter form, but this is the real deal. He can win the Melbourne Cup.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Belmont Race 8 – Won by Final Siren

Date: 06/07/24

Race Overview – About standard for the first 600m but they really scooted home in this, running good time.

  • Final Siren – Has shown an ability to run time throughout his career and put in a career peak here despite being 3-wide. He’s a group-class horse.
  • Ginnivan – Has come a long way this campaign and ran into a smart one here. Wouldn’t blame them if they went to the well again this campaign.
  • Stormchaser – Great run first up. Just have to follow this horse.

Sunshine Coast Race 3 – Won by Punch Lane

Date: 06/07/24

Race Overview – Went out quick and came home quick for the track conditions..

  • Punch Lane – Always promised to do something and market loved it here. He’s got something.
  • Redwood Shadow – Hasn’t won for nearly 2 years but love the margin to 3rd and beyond. Don’t sleep on him.

Maiden Winner of the Week:

Date: 03/07/24

Canterbury Racae 1 – won by Extremely Hardys

Why: Leading is the place to be at Canterbury, and did have first use of the track but he has smashed the clock.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Extremely Hardys – Doesn’t have a ceiling this horse.
  • Cinsault – Got the SP from this race. Follow.
  • Rybakina – Another who started short and don’t be disappointed with his run.

Other Notable Horses:

  • Sea of Lights – Visually stunning, better on the clock in Seymour maiden.
  • Rhapsody Chic – Trust your eye with this horse. Didn’t back it up on the clock but I have time for him.
  • Battlefield – Recent addition to the Barry Lockwood yard. 2 runs back have been outstanding. Look for him in a Saturday race.
  • Pharari – Went like a Datsun 180B. I’m not giving up on her.
