THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP – Ben Clifton

Weekend Wrap

There was a proven G1 star in action on the weekend and plenty of promising young horses to showcase.

Group 1 Racing – Tatts Tiara

Eagle Farm Race 8 – Won by Bella Nipotina

Date: 29/06/24

Race Overview – As you would expect in a Group 1 they went out at a good tempo.

  • Bella Nipotina – It’s easy to get caught up in trying to get the best horse beaten in a race by finding something at ‘value,’ but these genuine Group 1 horses just rise to the occasion. Ryan Maloney didn’t worry about getting cover but got her into a rhythm not far from the lead. Far too good.
  • Semana – Placed in 3 Group 1’s now. She will get her chance
  • Bubble Rock – Gave a massive kick at 2nd run in Aus. Interesting horse going forward.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Eagle Farm Race 3 – Won by Hidden Wealth

Date: 29/06/24

Race Overview – First 600m was quite moderate and that allowed Hidden Wealth to cross from the wide gate. Gave a massive kick on the turn and the last 400m sectionals were very good.

  • Hidden Wealth – Showed real intent from that gate. Versatile horse who can win better races based on that.
  • Millane – Punters are probably sick of this horse but, given the way the race was run, and it’s Starting Price you just have to give it another chance.

Rosehill Race 8 – Won by Elouyou

Date: 29/06/24

Race Overview – Went out quick and came home quick. Will be a good form race.

  • Elouyou – Every time he has gone to the races he has rated well. Good horse who can progress further.
  • Silvanito – Past 2 have been very good. Can win off this next start.

Maiden Winner of the Week:

Date: 26/6/24

Sale Race 1 – Won by Gallant Son

Why: No prizes for finding this. Went out in moderate sectionals but late sectionals were superb.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Gallant Son – They don’t win their debuts like this often. Group class at bare minimum.
  • Crime Of Passion – Happy to follow the whole race so has to go into the blackboo.
  • Flattered – Started favourite and want to follow anything with a decent SP out of this race.

Other Notable Horses:

  • Great Maximus – Taken to the front on Saturday and won like a good horse.
  • Our Queen – Irish bred filly who debuted in fine style. Could be one out of the box.
  • Jokers Grin – Very promising WA horse.
  • I Am Famous – Won a race at Hawkesbury that should prove to be a good form race. Battle Of Vienna ran 2nd and should be followed.
