THE WEEKEND WRAP – Autumn Glow – Ben Clifton

 Weekend Wrap

The sun is out and the good horses are back!

Star Performer of the week

Rosehill Race 1 – won by Autumn Glow.

Date: 17/08/24

Race Overview – They went out really quick and came home well. Overall time good, margins, good late sectionals, this race ticks all the boxes.

  • Autumn Glow – Lived up to the hype. Don’t get caught up in trying to talk her down, she is G1 class.
  • Dawn Service – I had his maiden rating really good before this race, a good horse to line up the winner against. He will win plenty of races.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Rosehill Race 6 – won by Gatsby’s.

Date: 17/08/24

Race Overview – Moderate tempo but scooted home. Winner is very good.

Horses to follow:

  • Gatsby’s – Showed plenty in first campaign and has come back well. Probably more a sprinter than Autumn Glow but looks top class.
  • Clear Proof – Ran into a good one here. Very nice horse.

Caulfield Race 6 – won by Drifting.

Date: 17/08/24

Race Overview – Went out quick but were able to run home well too. Went a lot better than the boys in the Vain Stakes.

Horses to Follow:

  • Drifting – Hard to fault what she has done and carried the penalty here. Looks a pure sprinter so will have to go to the Coolmore.
  • Geegees Mistruth – Had ran time in her Tassie wins. Measured up nicely here.
  • Kirribillli – Boths runs have been good. Think she will get 1600m so that opens up the Thousands Guineas.

Maiden Winner/s of the Week:

My favourite segment.

Date: 14/8/24

Randwick -Kensington Race 1 – won by Theblade.

Why: Had first use of the track but hard not to be impressed. Busted the clock.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Theblade – He won by so far that hard to recommend anything other than him.

Other Notable Horses/Jockeys:

  • PB Lawrence Stakes form – Binning this race. Is this the best WFA horses we have got in Melbourne? That’s a worry.
  • Vain Stakes form – In what looks a vintage year for 3yos the Melbourne 3yo boys look a fair distance behind the fillies and the Sydney 3yo’s.
  • Ndola – Should have ran in the Vain but won very impressively during the week.
  • Bravo Centurion – Good WA horse working through the grades.
