THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

The Caulfield Guineas Preview

James Brownley’s top chances & value runners : Caulfield Guineas preview.

We have hell of an interesting edition of the Caulfield Guineas. The star 3 year olds are out at Caulfield for their grand final day over 1600m. Here are my on top hopes for the first ‘Big one’ of the Caulfield Carnival feature G1s.

Tijuana was sensational winning at Moonee Valley last start. He’s proven over 1600m and has solid form behind Aft Cabin and group 1 winner Jacquinot.  Does map for a trickier run here from a wide draw but might be able to roll forward with minimal speed. I think he represents good each way value and is a winning hope here.

Berkeley Square was super winning the Exford Plate when weaving through the field. Stepping up to 1600m shouldn’t be a problem and comes here fresh which is a positive.  Should get a good run from the draw and might be able to sit a bit more positively. If he can get out in time I think he’ll be hard to beat.

Golden Mile has been good enough in Sydney but was plain to the line last start in the Golden Rose. Should get a nice spot and probably be in the box seat from a good draw. Will be extremely competitive will be given every possible with McDonald on board. Genuine winning hope.

Elliptical was good at Sandown in weaker grade when he finished off very strong. Prior to that was super in the Exford. Draws well to sit closer and I think will relish at the 1600m. Sneaky place chance.

The Fortune Teller comes through that Sandown race and was another one to storm through the line. Jamie Kah is sticking with him which is a massive positive and shows that she obviously has an opinion of him. Will appreciate the 1600 I believe and maps for a handy run from barrier 8.  Another good value place and exotics chance.

Foujita San has been racing well and although does draw the car park will sit towards the back so shouldn’t be a problem.  His last run at the valley was good when made a massive amount of ground late. Is proven over the distance and is well over the odds, will be flashing home late and is a possibility to sneak into the minors if things go wrong.

My top selection for the 2022 Caulfield Guineas is Berkeley Square. I think that Exford run was super and will appreciate 1600m. In for second is Golden Mile who will get the run of the race and third Tijuana with The Fortune Teller in for fourth.
