THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - THE STRADBROKE LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP: Stradbroke Handicap

The Weekend Wrap by Ben Clifton.

 Group 1 Racing: Stradbroke Handicap

Eagle Farm Race 8 – Won by Stefi Magnetica

Tempo: Solid Early tempo.

Race Overview: They went out quick in this race but were still able to run good late sectionals. Margins from 3rd to 4th so looks like form should hold up out of this race.

Stefi Magnetica ($14) – Specked in betting late. She was coming out of what looked a logical lead up race where she started favourite. Always had the profile for Stradbroke but you just had to be forgiving of her getting beaten last start. Can measure up to the Tatts Tiara despite the different weight conditions.

Bella Nipotina ($12) – What a marvel. They have to press on to the Tatts Tiara. Will be winning.

Vilana ($4.6) – Backed up his career peak last start to run well again. More genuine now.

Last Word: This is the only formline you need for the Tatts Tiara.

Group 1 Racing: J.J Atkins

Eagle Farm Race 6 –won by Broadsiding.

Tempo: Moderate early tempo.

Race Overview: Absolute demolition job. They only went out moderately with a lot of these horses going to the mile for the first time. This enabled Broadsiding to settle a little closer.

Broadsiding ($1.55) – Hard not to be impressed by what you see with this 2yo but up until this race he had never done anything data-wise to match what the eyes see. This race rated ok but not through the roof and although everyone is wanting to anoint him the next star, I’m not so sure.

Last Word – I’m worried about the rest of the field behind Broadsiding, connections will have lofty ambitions for these horses but they may be disappointed.

Maiden Winner of the Week:

Date: 13/6/24

Echuca Race 2 – won by Liberami.

Why: Moderate early tempo but last sectionals are outstanding.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Liberami – Won well here and can win more races.
  • Scorched Lane – 2yo first starter who ran well. Will only improve into next start.
  • Dancing Dolly – Another 2yo who ran home well on debut.
  • Supremacy – Good SP and made good ground.

Other Notable Horses:

  • Pharari – Group 1 horse… watch its win at Ballarat.
  • Miss Roumbini – Flew at Sandown. Only 2nd up and can win again next start.
  • Invincible Shield – Qld horse who is working through the grades. Got plenty up its sleeve.
