Rosehill Meeting Review

Date: 30/03/24

Track: Good 4

Rail: 6m

Race 1: Midway (BM72) – 1300m

Tempo: Fast early tempo.

Race Overview: Sharp overall time for this class and decent margins.

Cruel Summer ($9) – Straight to the front from barrier 1 and kept going. Reckon he had a lot in his favour in this race and happy to be against if he is not set up like this.

Black Duke ($12) – 3 wide on a hot tempo and stuck on well. Like him to bounce back if he maps to get a softer run next start.

Last Word: Black Duke the one to follow.

BLACK DUKE  worth a follow.

Race 2: Neville Sellwood Stakes – 2000m

Tempo: Moderate early tempo.

Race Overview: Went slow early and they came home ok.

Serpentine ($3.20) – Probably better suited going a little quicker in front but good effort to fight back. Bulldog.

Zeyrek ($2.60) – A bit disappointing when I watched the race but given how easy a run the leader had then it was entitled to kick. Think hes ready to peak now.

Little Mix ($6.5) – Flying but had no luck out wide.

Last Word: Little Mix is the one to follow.

SERPENTINE  is a bulldog.

Race 3: Baillieu – 1400m

Tempo: Even early tempo.

Race Overview: Good late sectionals and margin from 5th to 6th. Winner is very good so happy to follow this race.

Linebacker ($1.85) – A lessor horse wouldn’t have run down the leader who had a cosy run in front and Waterhouse horses are hard to get past. Think he’s top class.

Anode ($3.90) – Soft lead and gave a kick. Decent effort but think it was entitled to win. Backs up in the Sires Produce and don’t think it’s the right formline for that.

Last Word: Linebacker is a G1 horse.

LINEBACKER  is a Group 1 horse.

Race 4: Tulloch Stakes – 2000m

Tempo: Fast tempo early.

Race Overview: I had the race going below average for the class. History would tell you it’s the right lead up to the Derby. But I’m not so sure.

Wymark ($2.70) – Absolute peach by Berry. Good set up for the Derby but is he good enough? I’m not sold.

Kintyre ($6) – Massive effort chasing the hot speed. Looks like they will drop it in distance now which I think it is the right move.

Last Word: Traditionally the best lead up into the Derby but I am going to bet against it.

WYMARK  good enough for the Derby?

Race 5: Emancipation Stakes – 1600m

Tempo: Moderate early tempo.

Race Overview: Great sectionals and margins. This race has flown.

Olentia ($6.50) – Was on the back up in this and flew. Can she hold that performance when she isn’t on the back up?

Makarena ($3) – The punt can drive you nuts sometimes. Tragedy beat.

Last Word: Follow this race with confidence.

OLENTIA  nice win.

Race 6: Star Kingdom Stakes – 1200m

Tempo: Went like last weeks pay.

Race Overview: Overall time was quick and margins ok.

Bandi’s Boy ($15) – Building a good record. Had been running well in Country Championship races but this was a big step up. Love the last 50m.

Shinzo ($8) – He’s not much good.

Last Word: Winner only horse I want to take out of this race.

BANDI’S BOY  had a great last 50m.

 Race 7: Vinery Stud Stakes – 2000m

Tempo: Walked here.

Race Overview: Slow tempo early and sprinted home ok. Race has only gone fair.

Orchestral ($1.60) – The run of a horse looking for further. Great effort and only going to get better over further. Great win.

Tutta La Vita ($11) – Great ride by Nash. $11 SP suggests she is below this lot all things being equal.

Zardozi ($4.4) – Don’t jump off. Not suited by tempo. Good filly.

Last Word: Orchestral and Zardozi are the 2 best staying 3yo fillies in the country.

ORCHESTRAL  only going to get better.

Race 8: Tancred Stakes – 2400m

Tempo: Even tempo.

Race Overview: No margins, time only fair and massive SP on winner. Terrible race.

Kalapour ($31) – Take it and run. Good for connections, bad for most punters.

Post Impressionist ($2.5) – Came out of a fast race at its previous run into a more leisurely tempo. Failed miserably.

Last Word: Putrid.

KALAPOUR  take that a run.

Race 9: Doncaster Prelude – 1500m

Tempo: Moderate tempo.

Race Overview: Good late sectionals and margins. Winner is a star.

Another Wil ($1.75) – Market just kept smashing this horse. He’s a superstar and I said before the race he will end up in the top 3 horses in Australia by the end of the year. Expect him to win the Doncaster and market won’t miss him.

Bandersnatch ($41) – Good run but we know what he is.

Last Word: Don’t resist the rap on Another Wil. He’s a star and enjoy the ride.

Race 10: BM (88) – 1400m

Tempo: Very quick.

Race Overview: Went out hard and slugged home a bit. Winner only for mine.

Gringotts ($3.50) – Sat wide on strong tempo. Still too good. Market found him and he is starting to live up to promise.

Last Word: Gringotts the only one I want out of this.

  • Linebacker
  • Makarena
