Gold Coast’s The Wave Preview

An 1800 metre WFA contest for the three- and four-year old’s, The Wave is looking to kickstart the Magic Millions Carnival off with a bang and hopefully the punters can do the same.

Akihiro won here two starts back defeating Irish Playboy who has gone on to win twice since. Most recently he battled on well behind Alburq but was no match. Does draw wide but in a race with minimal speed he should be able to cross and find the box seat. Blinkers off might just liven him up a little and should get the run of the race just off the speed to be in the finish.

Deficit’s last run was good enough and will take good improvement from that. Has won over the trip before and will settle midfield. Query as to whether he will get out at a vital stage however, if he does, he will be hitting the line hard and a genuine contender.

Thalassophile  is sweating on a run but was huge in much stronger grade recently in Sydney when she powered home in the Belle of The Turf. Rises to 1800 for the first time which should benefit her greatly and from a wide draw will be able find a nice spot in the back half of the field and get a clean run into the straight. The one to beat if she can gain a start.

The Cunning Fox heads north after some good runs in Melbourne most recently a fifth at Sandown behind Right You Are who has since gone on to win again. Wide gate shouldn’t matter and will find a handy spot just behind the speed. Has been kept nice and fresh for this and is ultra-consistent. Will be in the finish and is a genuine contender.

Ashgrove looks a danger and has run some massive races in stakes grade in the past. Won with plenty in hand last start and should be suited to the rise in trip. Draws well to be within the first four and with luck at the right times should be competitive. Place hope.

Head Of State has won at 1800 before and is coming off the back of two fair trials. Last preparation he was very average fresh so first up is a genuine concern for me. However, he has shown plenty of ability and his form down south is behind some classy horses. James McDonald taking the ride looks a positive sign and is worth a look at for $5 a place.

On top hope needs to gain a start but Thalasophile looks clear of these. She’s been racing super in a much tougher grade than most of this field. Akihiro looks the next best for me and will be highly competitive in this field. Deficit and The Cunning Fox look the next two possibilities to complete the placings with other dangers including Ashgrove and Head Of State.

Punt on this here!

Just as Australians of the 50's and 60's came to accept European immigration, so too have punters learned to love the European racehorse. And it's a good thing too, given our middle-distance races are absolutely choc-full of t
