THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP – Eliyass – Ben Clifton

Weekend Wrap

Star Performer of the week

Randwick Race 5 – won by Eliyass.

Date: 21/09/24

Race Overview – This race has absolutely flown. They have gone out a good tempo and still come home very well. This will be potent.

Horses to Follow:

  • Eliyass – Putting together some massive figures. Can win a big one.
  • Ceolwulf – Really came hard late and just keeps improving. Can win a G1 this campaign.
  • Golden Path – Given I want to follow the whole race I have to follow this horse.

G1 Review

Underwood Stakes Caulfield Race 8 – won by Buckaroo.

Date: 21/09/24

Race Overview – Early tempo was strong and all the jockeys were trying to get to the middle of the track where the best ground was.

Horse to Follow:

  • Buckaroo – Really soft win by a horse who is starting to put together consistent ratings. Can win the Caulfield Cup on that.
  • Huetor – Big odds. Can we trust him? Not one of mine.
  • Pericles – Good run. Travelled sweetly into the straight but the race shape was probably against him.
  • Fawkner Park – Very disappointing on face value, but never in the right part of the track and never even looked for that ground. Think he can improve sharply off that.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Randwick Race 8 – won by Fangirl.

Date: 21/09/24

Race Overview – Slow early tempo and was a sprint home. Reckon this is a weak formline.

Horses to follow:

  • Fangirl – Flat track bully who can’t win the Cox Plate in my opinion. Found the right race here.
  • My Oberon – Not up to WFA but might run ok in an Epsom.

Maiden Winner/s of the Week:

Date: 19/9/24

Cranbourne Race 2 – won by Lofty Arch.

Why: The late sectionals and the margins are the key here. Lethal form race.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Lofty Arch – City class horse at the absolute minimum.
  • Certain Rise – Wins a maiden easily next start.
  • Ahha Ahha – Has the SP in a good race. Can bounce back.

Other Notable Horses/Jockeys:

  • Autumn Glow – Star filly just scratching the surface.
  • Gringotts – Obviously unlucky on Saturday and has always shown some X-factor. Follow.
  • Another Wil – Toorak is at his mercy.
