THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE WEEKEND WRAP – I am Velvet – Ben Clifton

Weekend Wrap

Sprinkling of horses that have Spring aspirations and some maiden winners to follow.

Star Performer of the week

Caulfield Race 1 – won by I Am Velvet

Date: 27/07/24

Race Overview – Hard to compare times to the races later in the day due to the deteriorating track, but there was plenty of style about the way this horse won.

  • I Am Velvet – Had to work early to sit outside the leader, travelled beautifully and didn’t know what to do when Stackhouse went for her. There is some serious ability there but they need to iron out her manners.
  • Dom – No excuses with this horse but probably the best thing about the run was that the market was in love with it.

Highlight Races from the Weekend

Belmont  Race 4 – won by Ginnivan.

Date: 27/7/24

Race Overview – Moderate early and sprinted home. All the formlines lines around these horses are holding up lately. Expect this race to also.

  • Ginnivan – Was backing up from last week when getting beaten by a 25/1 shot (Songaa must be followed) and was never going to lose. Last 3 runs have rated well.
  • Final Siren – Winner was on the back up and had map advantages over Final Siren. Don’t jump off.

Morphettville Race 9 – won by Zanthron

Date: 27/07/24

Race Overview – Moderate early and sprint home. Good time for the class and good margins. Think this will be a good form race going forward.

  • Zanthron – Was perfectly placed here third up ready to peak. Has another peak rating in it this campaign.
  • Kalasec – Ready to win next start.

Maiden Winner/s of the Week:

My favourite segment.

Date: 25/7/24

Bendigo Race 1 – won by Polyglot

Why: They have gone like rockets here. These are genuine Saturday class horses if not better, particularly the first 2 home.

Horses to follow from the race:

  • Polyglot – Both runs impressive and has a good racing pattern. Will win a stakes race.
  • Let’sfacethemusic – Has lethal formlines. Will be $1.01 in a maiden next start.
  • Follow everything out of this race.

Other Notable Horses/Jockeys:

  • Fragile Love – Flew midweek at Sandown.
  • Warparty – High rating maiden
  • Little Sandy – Rated well in maiden class.
  • Band Of Brothers – Market was in love with it at Caulfield. Don’t jump off.

It's the $40million question (or is it $30million?) depending on which kicker is kicked into gear, can star colt STROM BOY  handle a heavy track? As sure as the sun
Benny Clifton is on fire! Plenty of winners last week and he's aiming to keep the streak alive going into The Newmarket Handicap at HQ. There's 2 Group 1's from Randwick which Benny has cast his eyes over. Best Bet, Value bets, Quarries and more.
