Three possibilities to lift the premiership and after another ripping week of finals footy action, today we go again.
With arguably the best trio of teams remaining this year’s ultimate match promises to provide a captivating and nail-biting match to deliver one club the AFL’s holy grail.
This afternoon brings us the battle of the birds, as the Swans and the Pies will do battle at the SCG. Two teams that have gone under the radar all season and seem to defy all expectations to make it this far.
Collingwood demolished the Dockers at the G last week and are once again presented with a big challenge here. The Swans convincingly put away the Pies in round 22 and the way this could shape up its hard to not see them doing it again.
The Swans are fresh off the week off and play a gutsy high pressure brand of football that creates turnovers and scoring opportunities. The defensive unit for the Swans will be crucial again this week, and if they can keep those creative forwards quiet it will go a long way to doing as they did the last time these teams met.
A key matchup I’m looking forward to here is Nick Daicos and Ryan Clarke. Clarke has been crucial since returning to the side midway through the season and once again will be needed here to keep arguably the most influential Collingwood player out of the game again. He shut him down before & I fancy he can do it again to put the Swans in the box seat.
However, if Daicos gets his hands on the pill the Swans have a major problem. Whilst only an outside player, his run and ball use are exceptionally damaging.
Both teams have a fantastic and exciting mix of youth and experience, and it will be all on show here. It’s a toss-up for that final elusive spot in the big dance, but the way the swans played in round 22 has me thinking ultimately it is them in the box seat.
Home ground advantage and with freshness on their side, I’m feeling shades of 2012 for the men in blood red, and believe that the Swans will beat the Pies to lock in a spot for the 2022 grand final.
SWANS 1-39 is the bet at $2.
Key players to watch: Ryan Clarke & Nick Daicos
