US Open Preview
11 October, 2023
It’s Major time on the PGA Tour after what has been a shaky month for the game of golf. The stars are out at the Los Angeles Country Club, and they are ready to shine.
Justin Rose is coming off a positive showing at the Canadian Open, Charles Schwab Challenge and PGA Championship. He’s playing some really solid golf and I believe this course will really suit his style of play. His approach game has been very good of late and if he can continue to give himself the looks, I’ll back him in at odds to be in the finish.
Brookes Koepka is the obvious one here with John Rahm. Rahm is dominating the Fed Ex Cup and Koepka is coming off the back of a major win in the PGA Championship. Both have been dominating their respective tours and are arguably playing the best golf of their lives. It will be another heavyweight battle between these two, but I think Koepka’s control and ability to find the green will give him the upper hand over this weekend.
Cameron Smith has continued his consistency and will be a lock to make the cut this week. If he can reignite his putting and short game, he’ll be extremely competitive and should be capable of finding himself up the top of the leaderboard.
Jason Day is another local hope who has missed the cut at his last two outings but is very much capable of bouncing back. He’s sitting Top 10 in the Fed Ex Cup and has been playing some really good golf. His ability to get himself out of trouble is going to be a great asset and recently has been sensational around the green. If his short game holds up and continues the way it has been I think he can find himself in the Top 10.
