Sir John Monash Stakes Preview

Feature racing at Caulfield is back with this 1100 metre WFA contest. Here’s my top hopes for the Sir John Monash Stakes.

Ingratiating is a track and distance specialist and is coming off the back of a solid trial at Canterbury. He has performed on soft tracks and his first up form is almost perfect just missing the placings once and winning on three occasions. Drawn well to get a cosy run and will be having the last look at them late. The clear class in the race and the one to beat.

Katsu was good behind Flying On A Limb last outing when carrying weight. Jordan Childs reclaims the ride who has a good association with the horse winning 4 from 7 and relishes in the soft ground. Has been consistent all preparation and is always around the mark and should be highly competitive again.

Mileva is another one who likes the track and trip and will be looking to go back-to-back. Most recently ran behind Kallos who then went on to run gamely in The Goodwood. Has been freshened and since won a jumpout in very convincing style at Pakenham. Runs well fresh and on rain effected ground and will be in the finish again.

Malkovich is the pace in the race, however he will need to do some work from that wide alley. Is another horse who loves Caulfield placing 3 out of 4 attempts. If it can cross early and isn’t hindered, he will be highly competitive.

General Beau was good last outing at Flemington behind Sigh who he meets again here. Is consistent in this grade and is always around the mark. Will go back and be running on gamely late and is one for the exotics.

Bless Her is a chance at odds. She loves the track and trip placing 5 times from 8 attempts. Boasts a good fresh record and is coming off the back of a handy jumpout. Draws for a soft run and with luck can figure in the finish.

On top is Ingratiating with Mileva and Katsu in for the minors with Malkovich being the next main danger.
