THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE "AUSTRALIAN GUINEAS SPECIAL LISTEN

Moonee Valley Meeting Review

Moonee Valley Meeting Review 28/01/23

Track: Good 4

Rail: True

Race 1: Bm100 (2500m)

Tempo: Strangely run race, went slow early between the 1600m and 1200m they really quickened up.

Race Overview: Time no good, winner was $51. Don’t want to be following this race.

Eaton ($51) – Had a 5L win to its credit at the Valley 4 starts back but was, seemingly, a long way up in class. Rating will go up a lot now and just couldn’t follow given its SP.

Swords Drawn ($3.30) – Oh my Gaudrey! Really ordinary ride on this horse. Thought she was too negative at the start, then it just got uglier from there. Has been riding some winners of late so would be forgiving of her. Horse should have been in the finish at least.

Princess Rhaenys ($6) – Didn’t like the set up going into this race, and not convinced this will be her distance range. May not be much gas left this campaign.

Last Word: Not a race I want to follow.

Race 2: Bm70 (2040m)

Tempo: Went very slow early.

Race Overview: Didn’t really get a chance to run time given the early sectionals. Last section was decent which gives the race some hope.

Fighting Arrow ($5) – Loved the more positive ride, then got going when Marcolt was held up. Flying at the moment. Got another run in him this campaign before the Carnival horses hit town.

Marcolt ($8) – Held up but got out in plenty of time. Stiff to get beat.

Liberated Girl ($4) – Fell into her again this week. Obviously caught wide but tempo was slow so not worried about that. Worried about her lack of talent.

Last Word: First two home are flying. Happy to follow them in similar grade in the coming weeks.

Race 3: Bm70 (1600m)

Tempo: Solid tempo.

Race Overview: Ran home pretty well. Time for the class was inside standard and good margins.

No Secret ($7.5) – Geez the blinkers did the trick here. Obviously got a good ride but absolutely flew here. Does have form around Wrote to Arataki and Shuffle Dancer so that gave her some hope. Happy to follow her.

Dane Of Tour ($3.8) – Drifter late in betting and was ordinary. Think her campaign has run its course and can be against her if they go again this campaign.

Last Word: Winner flew. Intrigued with what she can do next start.

Race 4: Bm78 (1000m)

Tempo: Didn’t go unbelievably fast on the clock early but there was a lot of pressure up front, if that makes sense?

Race Overview: They have run inside standard but first 2 home have been given dream runs into the race.

Fission ($5.5) – Nice win and has a good record at the track. Unlikely to get as nice a run in transit next start.

Clarity ($9) – Same deal as the first horse. Could only follow at the Valley.

Command Approved ($2.1) – Back to Sydney with its tail between its legs but, this was a strange race, and would be forgiving of him given the SP.

Bistro ($3) – It’s no good. Spat out by the market and ran accordingly.

Last Word: Time was ok but this was a strange race. Only horse I would entertain taking out of the race is Command Approved.

Race 5: Bm70 (1000m)

Tempo: Upped the tempo from the 600m.

Race Overview: Going to have pick the eyes out of this race. Time was just ok.

Mamaragan ($4) – Great training effort and even better ride. I think the Nick Ryan camp place their horses so well and this was a great example of that. This was the easiest race it had been in for a long time. Definitely hasn’t broken the clock here, and don’t think the horse has returned to its absolute best form.

Jean Valjean ($2.8) – Valley probably not its go. Flying at the moment and more left in the tank this campaign.

Bifrost ($7.50) – Don’t know why they brought him back to the Valley. Going well but needs a bigger track.

Last Word: I think the big test for Mamaragan will be next start, I’m not convinced just yet.

Race 6: Bm70 (1200m)

Tempo: Strong tempo.

Race Overview: One of the better races on the card. Time was solid and there were some margins further back in the field.

Danny’s St Darci ($6) – Good ride here. She flew at the ‘bool last start and was suited by the strong tempo here. Can win more races.

Luna Cat ($3.2) – Couldn’t lift its legs late. Peak run of campaign should be next start.

Little Miss Kubi ($6) – Was against her going into the race but was the only one of the on-pacers to stick on. Really good effort and I’m happy to follow her next start.

Quraysha ($3.6) – Surprised she was so solid in the market. Forget about her this campaign.

Last Word: Little Miss Kubi was huge.

Race 7: Australia Stakes (1200m)

Tempo: Went quick early.

Race Overview: Time was solid and there were margins.

Jigsaw ($3.1) – I thought this was the race where the bubble burst and we forget about him, then he goes and does this. Clear career peak for him and ran the 1200m right out. I guess they have to go to the big sprints now, doubt he can win any of them.

Turaath ($4.8) – At the 600m you wanted to be on her. Thought she was entitled to finish off a little better. Difficult to place at the moment.

Snapper ($3.7) – Couldn’t handle the heat that Jigsaw brought.

Last Word: Jigsaw has won well here but don’t think he can win one of the G1 Sprints.

Race 8: Bm70 (1200m)

Tempo: Soft early tempo then got going before the straight.

Race Overview: Time was solid.

Kentucky Casanova ($5.5) – Loved how positive they were with their tactics. Nice horse and think it has more in the tank given it was its 2nd run back from a long break. Will win more races.

Exeter ($3.1) – Can understand why the market came for it given it was a long way down in grade. Just a run.

Last Word: Taking the winner only out of this race.

Race 9: Bm78 (1500m)

Tempo: Went quick.

Race Overview: Went out quick but slugged home.

Rambler Rebel ($26) – Great ride on this horse. Ethan Brown has ridden 15 winners from his last 50 rides. Airborne. This horse is limited but what he has going for him is a great racing pattern.

Worsfold ($2.5) – Flying. Would love to see him go up in grade now and drop in weight. Turn of foot horse who would appreciate a weight drop.

Last Word: Don’t drop off Worsfold.
