Dockers to rock cold pies premiership tilt?

Tonight will be a backs-to-the-wall blockbuster when the Dockers and the Pies do battle to stay in the 2022 finals at the MCG. Can the Pies pick themselves up after last week’s loss to the cats, or will Flagmantle march on to week 3?

Over the past 5 recent meetings the results have been split, the Pies did get the better of the purple haze at Optus in round 10 in what was a dominant display.  Freo however have hit their straps at the right time, winning 4 of their last 5. Young guns like Brayshaw, Sorong, Brodie and Young have blended beautifully with experienced stars Mundy, Ryan, Acres and Walters. The balance looks right for Freo.

Last week’s sleepy start had Optus Stadium in shock, before watching their team play its way out of the lapse and overturn a 6 goal doggies lead.  If the Dockers put in a four-quarter effort, I think they’re just about as good as anyone, and might just upset the “flagpies” to send them packing.

If the Pies are going to be a chance it will be important to upset Fremantle’s midfield balance, and the best way to do that is by limiting Andrew Brayshaw’s influence on the game.  He’s the Dockers everywhere man and when he’s allowed to get his hands on the ball Freo look unstoppable. It’s not just with the ball in hand he brings immense pressure with him and patrols the ground like his own.

Likewise a player that Freo need to lock down and minimise is Nick Daicos. The Swans did it in round 22 and it was the first time Collingwood have looked really out of touch since the halfway mark of the season.  A fabulous ball user and damaging outside player, if the Dockers manage to anchor Daicos down it’s a massive key to helping them get over the line.  This game shapes up to be more complex than the market has it and if Fremantle’s midfield play from start to finish I sense an upset in the making – FREO present good value at $2.52.

KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH : Andrew Brayshaw (Freo), Nick Daicos (Pies)
