Champions Mile Preview

It’s Champions Mile time in the second of the Group 1s for the day and it’s another mouthwatering clash between two in form visitors from Sydney and the new import fresh off a victory. But who will be victorious in the Champions Mile?

Private Eye is coming off the back of two super performances in The Everest and Nature Strip Stakes. Has had two wins over the 1600 metres and the rise in trip should suit and has won at Flemington in the past. He’s without a doubt the best horse in this race and is in red hot form. The one to beat.

Cascadian drops from 1800 to the mile which I don’t think will benefit him but is still capable of running a very good race. Runs well at Flemington and three starts back was good when behind some very classy horses. He’s strung two wins together since then and I think he can sneak into the placings if they put pressure on Alligator Blood up front.

My Oberon was dominant in the Crystal Mile last start and once again could prove hard to beat. Is a mile specialist and should find a good spot midfield with cover and have plenty of room to storm over the top of them late. The one to upset the favourite.

Mr Brightside is back to a more suitable trip. I think this is a hard task for him though considering. Returns to a dry track which will benefit though and maps for a super run. Think there’s others going better though but is a genuine place hope.

Alligator Blood will get a soft run in front and will be leading them for a long way. Drops back to a suitable trip after being very game in a Cox Plate. There’s no Anamoe and I’m Thunderstruck to compete with and I think he will improve dramatically. He’s at each way odds and will be in the finish.

Tuvalu is now a Group 1 winner and is ultra-consistent. Has never missed the placings over a mile and has never been out of the placings at headquarters either. It’s a big jump from last star but he did beat I Wish I Win who won a Golden Eagle so I think he’s capable of running a race here at double figure odds. One for the exotics.

On top hope is Private Eye with My Oberon in for second. For third I think Alligator Blood will hang on with Tuvalu and Mr Brightside fighting it out for fourth.
