All-Star Mile Preview

It’s All-Star Mile Day and the heavyweights return to The Valley in what looks to be a mouth watering clash. Will Alligator Blood continue his dominance or will the likes of I’m Thunderstruck and Mr Brightside turn the tables from previous battles. Or will someone else rise up to surprise the well fancied favourites? Here’s my selections for the 2023 All Star Mile.

Alligator Blood first up was enormous in the Futurity Stakes. He controlled the race and although the likes of I’m Thunderstruck and Mr Brightside had their chance we’re unable to go with him. Has won four times second up and over this distance has a very good record. Blake Shinn will be giving him every chance in the saddle and from barrier 7 should be able to cross and control the race. He’s the clear on top hope.

I’m Thunderstruck has been disappointing in his previous runs. However, he rises to a more suitable trip and with more speed predicted should allow for him to be running on home stronger. Has won third up before and should be able to see him return to his best. Place hope.

Laws of Indices will be more positive from that good gate and should be rock hard fit to run really well. Has placed twice over a mile and the track is a bit of an unknown. He has the class to be in the finish but will need some things to go his way. Marginal prospect.

Mr Brightside is back to The Valley and over a mile. He smashed the line his last two starts and looks primed for this today. A good gate will enable him to be slightly more positive than his previous two and should get a gun run just behind the speed. Looks capable of winning this and is the main danger.

Sheeza belter was good when hitting the line hard in The Coolmore Classic last week. Has won once over a mile and although has drawn poorly will get back and find a nice spot. William Pike on board is a positive and if she handles the back up could be value.

Pounding is a mile specialist and has won twice at the track and trip. It’s a much tougher ask today but think he can run well enough to provide some value for exotics.

On top hope is Alligator Blood he’s just racing so well at the moment with Mr Brightside in for second, I’m Thunderstruck in for third and Sheeza Belter for fourth with dangers including Laws Of Indices and Pounding.

Punt on this race.
