AFL Grand Final Preview

The big day is here! That one day in September and arguably the two best teams of the year meet in the decider. Will the Pies assert their dominance on the competition and claim the flag or will the Lions be taking the cup north?

The Pies were lucky to scrape through against the Giants in a nail biter last week but in that continued to show they are capable of scrapping wins from nothing. The Collingwood midfield was crucial to to their success last week with DeGoey, Mitchell, Daicos, Pendlebury and Sidebottom all being major ball winners and major contributors around the contest. Cox was extremely valuable and impressive in the ruck however will face a tough task again against Mclnerney. However, if Cox can once again allow the Pies midfield first hands on the footy it will go a long way to them claiming the flag.

The Lions were dominant late after a sloppy start against the Blues. The Lions midfield has been strong in the clearance game giving plenty of first opportunities to an extremely well balanced forward group. With Cameron, Daniher and Hipwood all consistently hitting the scoreboard they’ll need to continue to capitalise on each and every opportunity given to them in order to break down a solid Collingwood backline.

Overall last time these two sides met it was a shoot out, with the Lions being the more efficient team inside 50 and I can see them being able to do so again. They’ve been the best side in the tail end of the season failing to drop a game in their last 5 and are well balanced all around the ground and can play fast, attacking and controlled tempo footy. I think they’re more versatile than Collingwood and can claim the flag tomorrow.
