THE PUNTING MONOLOGUE - LISTEN

THE FORECAST: Coleman

THE FORECAST: DON’T SLEEP ON COLEMAN

Well, we kind of predicted the future in this column last week when I suggested Pride Of Jenni and Mr Brightside would be turned over by a party-spiling villain, just not sure that anyone could put Enver “Everybody’s Mate” Jusufovic into the villain category.

But Saturday is another day, and we have another Group 1 to be run and won.

It’s a little ironic (don’t you think) that a colt that carries the name of a famous footballer isn’t owned in any way by the mega-buck syndicate that has been naming valuable colts after footballers for the last four years?

COLEMAN is the horse I’m referring to. I reckon old mate Anthony Mithen and his Victorian Alliance will be channelling Robbie Muir vibes if Coleman snags the Group 1 Moir at The Valley this weekend, or any other major sprint this spring for that matter.

Nothing like coming up with a good idea and watching someone else pull it off.

Could it be the case for Moir favourite ESTRIELLA? Ciaron Maher has lined this race up for some time, the hype is large, and the mare looks quick, but HAYASUGI is in a similar boat. Already a Group 1 winner and arguably untapped, her trainer Clint McDonald knows what he’s doing…just don’t mention that night where he got denied entry to the Tiges Grand Final after party at Bond.

In Sydney at Randwick the hype seems to have died off around AMELIA’S JEWEL since she’s joined the Neasham & Archibald stable. The darling of WA was the mare on everyone’s lips last spring in Melbourne, but we haven’t heard boo about her despite a couple of decent trials. Is she just a bloody good horse or can she climb a little higher?

More importantly though is the return of 2022 Everest winner GIGA KICK in the Concorde. Has there ever been a horse with more goodwill behind it than this bloke? Clayton Douglas comes from nowhere with a superstar who ends up having worse hamstrings than this guy.

I’m crossing the fingers he comes back with a bang this weekend.
